State of the Union

Just thought I'd put this out there, see who watched the speech last night and what people thought about it.

I thought it went very well. I only watched about 2/3 of it. And everything in that portion that I watched, I was happy and agreed with him on. Except for the whole phone tapping thing. I don't know the full details of his plan, so maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. But I think that tapping random, possibly innocent, peoples phone lines and listening in on their conversations shouldn't be legal. I think that is going too far, but that's just me.

I totally agreed with his plan to enhance Nuclear Power growth within the nation to help us move more away from petroleum based city power. I agree with using technology to have cars run off an alternative and cleaner form of power. He said he had a plan to creat a timeline that would have the US on a path to be substantially less dependant on petroleum fuel by 2025, and that way our economy will be much less dependant on the oil we get from the unstable middle east. If that is possible, then I think it's great. I agree with getting the Social Security Issue acted upon. I agree that we should not pull our troops out of Iraq, even if you believe we shouldn't have started it in the first place. Pulling out now would leave all those people helpless and possibly worse off then they were before. We should finish what we started and not retreat from it. Pointing fingers at Bush or whomever, and saying it's their fault, that is not a solution and will get us nowhere. What happened in the past can't be changed, it happened, and we must work from there to make things right. And pulling out now would make the US look horrible I believe, and again would end up being a horrible situation for Iraqi citizens, and I think it's the wrong decision. He said he had a plan to cut the national debt in half by 2009. If that really is possible and we can find a way to do that, then I think that is great! Cutting government funded programs that aren't performing, I can see how that could be bad for the people involved with them, but that's how the world works. If you aren't performing up to your expectations, then of course you will find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I couldn't give 2 shits about the address, but then again I don't vote either. I take what i'm given and roll with it. I've never understood politics, nor have I ever cared to learn more about how all that works. Last person in any office that I liked was Ventura, and that's cause we got money back ;)

I didn't watch it either, but thanks for the info. Just haven't had time to see what's going on with the world.

I am not really into politics, I just watched it because I was curious as to what our future may hold. I was particularly interested in the whole "FUEL" subject since that is a huge thing right now with gas prices, and the fact that I work in the Nuclear industry. So I'm glad that he addressed that quite a bit. Then I watched it a bit more and finally had to take care of a few things so I didn't hear the last 1/3.

Re: State of the Union

I watched it. Of course it went really well. Our president is a very good speaker. He tells us exactly what we want to hear. However, nothing ever gets done. We have had border security problems with the Mexicans leaking into the U.S. for years. Nothing has ever been resolved of that. I watched it mostly to hear about the energy plan. Bush talked about energy in his first term. Nothing ever became of that. He said the Americans are addicted to oil. I do agree with him on this. I think it will take nearly running out of oil before something gets done about it.

It's my opinion, but i disagree with you on the phone tapping. I think it should be legal. Everyone wants to live in America without terrorism, yet many don't think it should be legal to do such activities such as eavsdropping. We have to do whatever it takes.

He also mentioned heathcare (OF COURSE) as he does in all his speeches. He also said we have to start protecting doctors from meaningless lawsuits. I DO agree with him on this. Lawsuits have become ridiculous.

Bottom line: His speech means nothing to me until something actually gets done.

I watched all of it and thought it went well. I agree with all of what brandon said up top. With all that is going on Bush is doing a good job juggling everything.

I also agree with is surveilance (sp) program, he said they are only watching international communication and I think its a good thing to keep from further attacks. Making it known before people knew would have been ideal though...

I was at school and missed it -thanks for the recap.
Before the address (I think it was CNN) was saying the President is at 41% approval.

Re: State of the Union

I'm glad someone agrees.... Yeah i'm sure they're not tapping into peoples phone sex conversations. If you have nothing to worry about and are not planning a terrorist attack, then it shouldn't be a bother. They are tapping people that are on a black list.

Yeah, 41%... Next week it will probably be in the 30's give or take.

I didn't watch it but everyone says it went well. I do have to say that I'm not worried about the phonetapping or emails or anything else. Most people don't know it but they have been doing that for years. Other countrys are paided to spy on the people of the US. We then spy on their people for the other countrys gov'nts. It's called ECHELON. I have hours on video on it.

That's fine that we disagree, it's just my opinion.

But something IS BEING DONE about the energy situation. The NRC is receiving a large amount of money, and will be distributing it to the companies involved with building and maintaining and operating these plants. At my work alone, we already have a huge amount of contracts being worked right now for new plants around the US, as well as many Asian countries, and a few European countries. Westinghouse is only one of the companies out there building plants too. So I'm sure the others also have a lot on their plate, not just us.

I don't know if you guys saw Web Junk 20 on VH-1, but they had one of Bush's old speeches that they slowed down and then sped it up at the perfect times to make him sound like he was drunk off his ass. I'll have to see if I can find the link.

Opie and Anthony (XM) tried doing the state of the union address that way but couldn't quite get 100% right. They needed a reel-to-reel but all they had was digital devices. Kind of had an echo behind it. But it was funny nonetheless.

I guess I could care less what they say in their speeches. I'll believe it when I see it happen. I have never put a whole lot of faith in politicians. There are a few exceptions to this, but not very many.

BWAHAHAHA! Puh-leez, anyone can read from a teleprompter. Dramatic pauses after every phrase are fucking pathetic. Go back to presidents like Reagan and Clinton and see how they speak.
