Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

I was driving and went to shift into third on my 95 tsi fwd and there was nothing so I knew that the fork broke. I want to fix the tranny myself if possible and i also have a 91 tsi awd that I got for a parts car for very cheap. I want to take the 91 engine and swap it into my 95. At the same time I will fix my tranny and my clutch will be upgraded.

Any people have any good suggestions or sites for this operation. Also if there is something that you think that I should do different please let me know. Does all of this sound like a good idea to you guys that know more then me?

Let me know all of what you think.
THANKS!!

I have heard that the RRE way is better because you use the 2G crank angle sensor and you wont get the random misfire code. But I have the "magnus" way and I have gotten the code only one time. Its a really simple swap IMO.

Ok thanks. Is there anything that you ran into that I should know first hand?

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Problems Ive had are:
Wired CAS wrong so car didnt start, No big deal just switched up 2 wires. Also RRE makes a plug and play for 1Gina2G.
Did rebuild with topline. Topline=Piss poor so I had to do it again
Also with a 95 you need to swap 2 plug wires or something. I have a 98 so I didnt have to do it and I dont know that much about it.
Other then that there arent that many problems with my car at least from the 6Bolt swap.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

I have that 91 motor and I was wondering if you suggest to rebuild it and if i do what partd should I replace like crank, rods, pistons. I wanted to set it up for 600 HP so I dont have to do it again in the future. What will the stock crank in that hold up to and also should I do all new bearings or what.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

If you want 600HP you should probably go with a fully built motor. But if you are going to do that then you might as well go with a 2.4. The cost of building a 2.4 is about the same as a 2.0. There is alot of info on that swap out there too.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

What will a 91 engine handle for HP stock, just aftermarket pistons, and pistons and rods?

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Im not for sure but a stock one can handle maybe 400-450. Dont know about just pistons but pistons and rods and all the goodies can handle your 600HP goal no problem.

If anyone knows what a 91 1g morot with wiseco or something similar will handle let me know.

With Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods, the motor should be able to handle 600hp no problem if tuned correctly. You are going to need head work also. Its going to add up quick.

a complete stock shortblock with arp headstuds and cams and bolt ons made around 580 to the wheels, for his full race season. Most people don't even know the potential of these motors, and THINK they need to build them.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Yeah but people that make that much power on the stock motor usually have a lot of money into tuning and know exactly everything they need to know.

An average person is not going to make 580hp on the stock LONGBLOCK with arp headstuds, cams, and bolt ons while having it last.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Nash made 511whp on a stock short block. Make 450whp, then think about building it. That is much harder and faster than what people think it is.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Ok so what if I just rebuild the motor with wiseco pistons, do head studs, and cams. With the crank, rods, and other stuff stock will that work? What boost is capable with that setup? I wanted to do that setup and put a new good clutch in and rebuild my tranny. Let me know what you think.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

If you are rebuilding the block with aftermarket pistons, it would be pointless if you put in stock rods. If you are going to use stock rods, get a set of 2g pistons and go from there.

In my opinion... If you have the money to build the bottom end, do it. Do things once, do it right, and be done with it. Why have to upgrade later down the road and spend more money. Some things can be done this way, some cant. Like fuel for example, if you have DSMlink, why not buy 950cc injectors instead of 650's? The price difference isnt that much, you could be running a stock turbo and DSMlink would handle them just fine. There for you buy the larger injectors and save a couple hundred bucks instead of having to upgrade them later down the road. Think of how much it will cost to rebuild a stock motor, then when you get to the point where you want to make more power than the motor can handle, you have to build another motor. Your decision, just giving you an opinion.

What you are asking is a broad question... You are going to need a fuel setup, a FMIC of some sort, turbo, exhaust, if you get cams you should get valve springs, basically just all the important stuff to make it work with the rest of the engine. If you dont have all that, you dont really need to worry about what modifications you do to the engine.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

Ok so I dont have that much money right now because some other toys decided to blow up this weekend so I think ill stick with just utting in the stock 91 motor and What I have with that. So in the end here I will have the stock motor swap, very large FMIC, SAFC, 550's, EVO III Big 16g ported, Header, Downpipe, Cat back w/out cat, direct rout IC piping, intake, 255 fuel pump, and Imight of missed some things but for the most part that is what I will have in the end. What does everyone think that I should be able to run for boost on that setup after I putit together and a better clutch? thanks for the help. Also if you have an estimate of what power that will push and still be a daily driver.

Re: Blew Tranny, Swap Time Need Some Help

How much boost depends on what kind of gas you wnat to use. If I were you. I would get dsmlink as you need a good logger. You wouldn't need the safc than and you could do the 6 bolt swap the magnus way without any problems.
