I just got my 3inch exhaust for my 1990 GSX. On the d/p it was supposed to not be a flex and there was. My question is should I keep the flex or call them and tell them they sent the wrong one. I know the flex is better as far as being durable but it not as good as the flow on the other , right? Thanks!

What is your setup where you think a flex will hold you back?

4BANGER 01-27-2004 01:56 PM

It's
-650 FIC injectors
-Greddy Profec-B Boost Controller
-buschur racing UIP with 1g bov polished piping
-2g maf w/dejon tool piping
-16g turbo polished housing
-S-AFC
-digital tuning pocket logger, software and palm m100
-auto meter z series guages, boost and EGT
-ACT 2600 PP w/street disc
-taboo speedshop 1/4 longer slave cyc. rod
-welded the clutch linkage
-upgraded rear swaybar
-H&R sport springs(1" drop)
-HKS rear adj. struts
-rear strut tower bracing
-brass trans shifter bushings
-symborski shift kit
-2g shifter handle

The new exhaust is ATR 3inch catback w/02 elimanator d/p and a testpipe

Keep the flex section.

I'm just curious what are the advantages/disadvantages?
I mean what does the flex do?

1ViciousGSX-Do you have the flex?

Kracka 01-27-2004 02:12 PM

99% of people have a flex, the only ones who don't are the ghettofab cheap-asses and the all out racers. The flex will keep the welds on your exhaust from cracking and minimize the movement of your muffler. Everytime your engine moves, so does everything that is bolted to it. If you are diehard no-flex then you will at least want to get some Prothane motor-mounts to keep stuff stationary.

Where did you get your 3 inch from? I am looking to put it on my 1990 Laser FWD. Just looking for any ideas.
I already have a muffler, so I am trying to find a place that just sells exhaust, OR a place that will bend it for me.

Definately keep the flex.

Kracka 01-27-2004 10:24 PM

So all you have so far is just the downpipe and the muffler? Where are those things from? If all you need is just the cat-back piping, AHP (www.ahpproducts.com) has it listed on his site. I am sure you could also get it from RnR, and possibly even QPR.

Having the flex section will also save wear and tear on the o2/dp gasket!
