Donating a car

Since my daily driver has been replaced I am looking to get rid of the old POS Grand Prix. It's not worth much and is in need of a bit of work, but runs and drives fine. Rather than spend time trying to sell it I'm planning on just donating it. Has anyone done this before, or know of places that do this type of thing? I've looked a little but haven't found much.

I donated a car once, just look in the newspaper for ads, call the number, and they'll come tow it away.

Did you get something to prove you donated it so you can claim it on your taxes?

Yeah, they'll give you a tax deduction slip.

The taxes advantages on donating on cars has changed since last year or year before. It is no more a blank slip and fill as you need type deal now due to the IRS thinks that the real value was too inflated as tax deductions. Also, be careful of which place you donate to because allot of them are not legit donations places. GL.

You can ALWAYS take it off some sweet jumps. Many places tow junkers for free. They get money from the scrap metal. I suggest waiting till winter and doing 120mph on a lake and get 'er spinning.

Why not donate it to a charitable cause versus a junkyard who is just looking to make a buck?

Same thing as the veterans....scrap the car and put the money towards hopefully a good cause.

Yeah, the tax laws changed. You only get a deduction worth what the car actually sells for at auction. I would sell it to someone for a beater.

Re: Donating a car

if you can't sell it i would actualy need some electronics off of it to make my winter beater work... the coil packs and some inside stuff..

Hummm, does it need anything to make it through a winter? Could keep the miles off the 6.

Re: Donating a car

why did you get the AWD other than to drive it in the winter, if my eclipse was AWD it would never see the garage during the winter..but then again i have the truck for the winter snow days..

You just bought a brand new car, who cares about miles!!! You are paying to drive it.

LOL, wanna by me tires for the winter? I'd rather enjoy putting miles on it in the spring, summer, and fall. Also keep the salt and element away if I can.
