If you see the red stripe, get the hell out of the way!

Ahh, at last, a little automotive balance in my garage. I've been a german car fan since I was a kid and since I bought my 94 AWD Talon 5-6 years ago I have pretty much pushed them from my mind. Anna has been driving an *incredibly* reliable 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES for the past 4 years and aside from brake pads (front ones only), tires (just this past fall when the car rolled over 80k miles) and oil changes, the car has been great I would recommend it to anyone, and I will continue to do so.

Still, I found this hole in my heart. Well, that hole has been filled now as we bid the 'Lil Lancer farewell and say hello to some German engineering. Last night we sealed the deal on Anna's new ride: a 2006 VW Jetta GLI. This car has a 2.0 direct-injection turbo 4-cyl in it with a DSG transmission. No, that is not an ad-word for 'automatic' this is a sequential, dual-clutch transmission that shifts gears in .008 seconds (not a typo!). For comparison, a Ferrari Enzo shifts gears in .15 seconds. This thing has paddles, baby!

I have high hopes for this little bugger, people have reported ~200whp and 240wtq on a DYNO DYNAMICS dyno with as little as a chip and some exhaust. So what does that mean? Hughes, Ferski, (maybe AJ?) and others: watch out! Because my WIFE's car will be giving you a run for your money this summer!

So, as they say in Germany, 'if you see zee red stripe, you know to move over when you are on zee autobahn!'

Did I mention 32MPG?

My mom just bought a new VW EOS. It is a 2.0T hardtop convertable. I wonder if they have the same motor in them. Hers won't see any mods or anything though. Those jettas look pretty nice though.

That ferrari probably rev matches intself durring shifts. But I don't know that.

Shoulda gotten the station wagon version, if they had one. :) German station wagons win.

Gratz! Very nice color choice. How has the DSG held up to mods? I am just wondering how much more power they will take over stock. DSG is pretty sweet from everything I have read!

Dude, it's got two clutches, it's already twice as strong as a dodge viper's clutch.

Nice car man! I drove one of these after they came out, it's a quick little bastard. I love the color too.

Yes, this has the same motor as the EOS (and others).

There is no known power limit of the DSG tranny yet. It also rev matches on upshifts and downshifts. You can even stack downshifts. Simply blip the left paddle the number of downshifts you'd like to do as you approach a corner and as you brake, the car will downshift & rev-match appropriately. I doubt we will see many of these breaking, as 99.9% of audi guys that strap on 'big turbos' do a gt28rs, which is a little smaller than the stock turbo on my Evo.

I can't tell you how smooth this car is, recaro seats, the DSG is simply amazing, and the little motor makes good power stock. If anyone wants to go check one out, definitly gotta go visit this girl Laura that we bought it from at westsideVW. I'll post her info here later.

So when you downshift for a corner it doesnt shift automatically? It shifts as it thinks it reaches an appropriate RPM range?
