transmission problems please help

ok so I finally got done putting in a transmission that I was told was rebuilt about 21000 miles ago. it is a manual. so we go to take it for a test drive I put it in 1st and give it a little gas and start letting out on the clutch and it goes no where. it kinda sounds like the gears are touching and spining but not fully engaging at least that is the best way I can describe it. then I put it in second and it goes. every other gear works great and it feels like it has been rebuilt. could it be something with the shifter cables or is 1st gear shot? anyone have any Idea what this could be?

Should have bought the transmission I offered you, lol, jk

You may be screwed, my GVR4 transmission didnt go into first because of a broken shift fork.

You might not be screwed, you can find out by manually shifting into gear with your hands, you will have to dis-attach the shifter cables at the transmission to do this, put the car in 1st, turn it on, see if the clutch engauges, or see if the cables even travel the distance required by the shift arms

good luck, and my "pretty good" 90 trans is still for sale.

I am going to assume i'm screwed. I tried what you said to and it did the same thing. the shifter put it in to 1st as well. when it is in first it just spins and kinda makes a rattling noise as the rpms go up and the car goes nowhere. 2nd through 5th and reverse all work fine I don't get it.
