No Spark!

I picked up a 91 gsx auto and it wont start. I checked the spark by putting a plug in the wire and grounding it to metal on the car and nothing but when I check the power going to the coil the test light lights up on the power wire and both signal wires that I tested so why no spark? I also tryed 2 other coils, and a new transister. Any ideas?

Cam angle sensor, or your crank angle sensor, check them both...

What explains how the supply wires to the coil from wiring plug all make the test light light up when turning over? Any other ideas?

Re: No Spark!

You might just have really low voltage going into the coils. Enough to light the test light, but not enough to produce spark. If you can, check it with a DVOM.

The car turns over but really slow after the person just rebuilt the motor. It is also an auto if that has anything to do with it turnung over slowly.

Is it below 9 volts when cranking?

Um Im not sure but it is hooked up to the battery charger when starting so I would think it would have enough.

it sounds like the same problem i had, are you %100 sure that the timing is set correctly?

Re: No Spark!

i was still getting coil voltage, but my cas was still shit... you might want to look into the cam and crank angle sensors...

Check the power transister. Also Ohm check the coil.

Re: No Spark!

Ok I tryed a new transister pack, coil, cas, wires, and plugs. I got somewhere this time tho. The coil gets power but no signal to fire. So I went to the CAS plug and there is no power when the key is turned forward to power up the cas meaning that is why there is no signal sent to the coil. What should I check backwards from this like fuses or relays maybe ecu but I put 2 different eprom ones in as well.?

did you check your ecu for leaky caps?

95talonracer 02-24-2008 05:10 PM

Re: No Spark!

It looks like they may have leaked some. Who does cap replacement and how much?

I would send it out to this guy.
http://simon.chi.il.us/ECU/

He is a wiseman on tuners who is also very very helpful if you have any questions.

you can borrow my non turbo ecu. I have 10 or so. you can at least start it and move it.

Will a NT ecu work?

Re: No Spark!

you can start and move the car but can't boost it. you can use it to test and see if you have the ecu problem.

Would you be going in Anoka tomorrow at all? Ill meet you there if that works for you to borrow an ecu from ya. LEt me know. Thanks!

Ok I got a new ECU and have spark. It fired and not I am thinking it is not getting fuel. when I take off the fuel return line it doesnt spit fuel out when I am trying to start it but right when you shut the key off it spits a good amount out but only for a split second. what could this be I tryed a new regulator thing that is under the radio and nothing. What should I try or test now?

Re: No Spark!

It is probably the main relay. That controls the fuel pump. My starion did the same exact thing when it went out.
