ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
I see MAP has this stuff in stock now, and I've heard good things about it. The company is based out of Japan, and switching to it from something like Mobile1 or AMSoil is rumored and apparently been tested to see significant horsepower gains, in the neighborhood of 10-15hp at the crank on a 550hp motor.
Here's a test that was done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb1YzGcEUCI Anyone running this stuff? Longevity concerns and or comments? Discuss... |
Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
I too wonder about its protection and longevity properties. When Royal Purple stomped onto the market they made promises of big power gains, but their oil additives fell apart within 2k miles and basically turned to junk in the amount of time/miles that barely effects other oils.

Interesting. I would like to see some more research as well!

We need some real damn info on this! I'm interested in this as well. Can someone with knowledge on the product/personal experience/hear-say chime in please?

Whats the price like?

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
Testing will be done, but its going to take a few months while I rack up the miles on the Evo.
Test: Get the oil analyzed after 5k miles of hard street driving. I will be doing this for both Mobil 1 and Eneos to compare how well they each hold up in the long-run, not just fresh out of the bottle performance. |

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
Who knows. Any thin oil normally makes more power than a thicker oil, until you spin a bearing. It might be good shit, all the wholesale distributors have been trying to force this stuff down everyones throats the last 6 months or so, but PowerTV is not a reputable source.

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
At least W2W did the testing, they are very reputable. The might have done it just to get free advertising though.

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
Eh i'd just stick with what the OEMs seem to use in their performane vehicles. Mobil Uno.

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
I personally just run whatever synthetic is on sale the day I'm at the store. Except I never run Mobil 1.
Anyone else notice Walmart has a synthetic SuperTech now a days? I'm tempted to run it for a few thousand and send it in to be analyzed afterwards. Their conventional stuff isn't half bad. |
Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
Conventional SuperTech oil was Penzoil, then Quaker State (Penzoil owns Quaker State). I'm guessing the SuperTech synthetic is also Quaker State. The SuperTech filters are also a very good bargain; they are merely relabeled AC Delco, STP, and Bosch oil filters (Bosch does have a thicker case able to withstand higher oil pressures compared to the rest though). I have a feeling the Mobil 1 oil filter is identical to a Bosch.

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
hey kracka do you want to tell me more about the lawsuit between mobil and castrol??? you really got me curious :)

Re: ENEOS oil: power adder or snake oil?
My research awhile back showed that Supertech oil was different based on what region of the US you lived in. Supertech on the West Coast was not the same "copy" as it was on the East Coast, and so on.
