overheating after fmic install
 

after putting on my ETS fmic my car it wants to overheat while driving at low speeds.. so i know there is not enough air going through the radiator.. would a 12" slim fan between the intercooler and radiator do the trick or run 2 12" slim fans on the normal side of the radiator?

Run 2 12" slim fans on the normal side. A fine behind the intercooler and infront of the radiator would just block even more air. You could also make some air ducts to direct the air to the radiator.

Huh? Personally, I've been fine with one fan as a pusher between the radiator and the intercooler. Just make sure the fan flows enough cfms and it should be fine. I've gotten away with one 12" on the hottest of days.

Ya, put one or two fans inbetween the FMIC and the radiator, as a push setup. That way you have plenty of room for other stuff between radiator and engine block/trans like biggie intake, gt42rs, tubular manifolds, wastegates, and the like. :P Just be ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE they are push fans, not pull fans ;)

I have 2 12" push fans in between my radiator and fmic and have had no issues with overheating at all.

There was a thread in here about something similar to that "air duct" to the Radiator, I believe carltalon posted a pic where someone had a piece of aluminum under the car grabbing air and throwing it upwards at the radiator. Just an FYI, search his name and Posts if you wish. I believe it was him.

A couple of flexible dryer hoses scooping air might also help, sort of like what User Name said.

Usually the intercooler blocking air going o the radiator isnt the problem It just magnifys a problem that was already there.
Some things to check.
1. Thermostat. is it functioning? Try pulling the thermostat and running it without one for a while. See if it overheats.
2. Timing (yes i have seen where timing was the cause of overheating issues)
3. Water pump
4. Is there coolent dripping?
5. Is there coolent in the car?
Try those things first.
The main one that fooled me is i was working on a friends car and replacing his water pump because he said he had tried everything. I first looked at his timing belt as i was gettin ready to take off his timing belt and his tensioner was messed up. so i reset the timing (also changed the water pump while i was at it, the one that was on the car looked just fine though) After i fixed the timing it ran without overheating ever again.
My current setup is a FMIC stock radiator with only one fan, and a scm61.

everything is working fine.. the car can idlefor days w/o overheating.. it only gets hot after driving slowly

Which ETS kit did you get? I have the ETS Street kit on my 1g and have been fine with just a single stocker.

Hrm, are you 100% positive your fans are turning on? I had an issue with my 2G, turns out the fans just switched off when the A/C was on :(

i have the fan always running when the car is on.. i dont have a/c. and i have the street core. but i also have a tranny cooler between the fmic and radiator..
