Blown Head Gasket?
- white smoke (especially at idle)
- 90s across the board for compression. - Hard to get started, Sounds like a subie when it finally starts. - Runs like ass. - Coolent is running a little hot. - Evo 3 Metal Head Gasket that has been on a couple of my engines, and head changes, Applied Copper Spray this last time i put the 1g head on. The normal sealant was looking a little tired. - Torqued and retorqued to 76 ft/lbs. Sound like a head gasket to you guys? |
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
I would say so, i would get away from the metal head gaskets in my opinion
|
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
agreed, also maybe every once in a while when your changing your head/engine you could pick up a new gasket.

Re: Blown Head Gasket?
Reused head gasket? :nope: :rollinglaugh:

Re: Blown Head Gasket?

I did have mine go early this year with no real explanation, I wasn't on it at all. The only real thing I can think of was I had my timing set up wrong in link. The symptoms were exactly as you're describing. |
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
Naw, it's fine. Keep running it until it's down to running on 2 cylinders instead of just 3 and it gets enough coolant in the cylinders to bend a rod or two.

And while your at it, make sure those headstuds are a bit more than finger (76lb) tight :).
|
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
I have reused them before. the one on the talon has been off 4 time still same multi layer and seals fine still with copper spray and arps down to 95

Re: Blown Head Gasket?
You're using stock headbolts? I thought you were running in the 20s for boost, maybe they stretched. With all this money/time you put into it, should splurge for ARPs.
|
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
Yeah i run 25-27 daily.
I may pick some up, otherwise i think i have a set of 6bolt ARPs to go with my 1g head. I would have to tap the block though. |
Re: Blown Head Gasket?
You can't reuse stock head studs! Spend the $80 for ARP's and save yourself all this hassle.
