cometic vs. felpro head gasket
So the story begins when I swapped out my crane 14 cams with a set of crane 16 cams. I replaced the oem lifters with stronger pt style sbi's, the oem rockers with the stronger 2.7 ones, I also figured I'd change the timing belt too while I had it apart. I went with a brand new timing belt from oreillys and it snapped after only 200 miles, bending 14 out of the 16 valves in the head. So now I am looking at getting some arp's, ss valves, and a new head gasket. I did some searching and didn't get any definite answer as to why one would be better than the other besides the cometic costing roughly $30 more, I mean they are both mls. I've been running 22 psi daily on e85, if that is going to make a difference, so I would like to get an answer on which one would suit me best.

Re: cometic vs. felpro head gasket
We use a lot of Cometic gaskets and assuming the block and head are prepared accordingly we have had very good luck with them. If you go with Fel-Pro I would look into the PermaTorqueMLS gasket. We recently blew a Cometic in the RX7 and went with this, so far so good.

Re: cometic vs. felpro head gasket
This is 420a right? Not sure if that makes a difference on the answers people may give.
Is the OEM replacement headgasket that bad, why go to MLS? 22psi isn't that much really if you're using ARPs. |
Re: cometic vs. felpro head gasket
Isn't Rau still using a stock felt HG?

Re: cometic vs. felpro head gasket
The stock head gasket for the 420a is mls, i've actually heard that felpro makes the oem head gasket for the 420a.

Re: cometic vs. felpro head gasket
Rau has been using the PermaTorque MLS gasket for a while now, it seems to work quite well.
