Can't hold boost, did a boost leak test, check inside.

SO yeah, put on the new TB (thanks kevbo, works awesome), fixed my j-pipe bolt (turbo was stripped out).

DId a boost leak test about to 35psi. Small leak out of AFPR on the vacuum line fitting, i guess i need to use some teflon tape on the fitting maybe?
Only other place is the nipple on the top of the TB, i should probably have those welded up too. But these are really small leaks.

Anywho driving the car last night, car would spike to 33psi but settle to 22psi, i just want to hold boost steady and i can't.

Please help with any suggestions or ideas.

Thanks
Aaron

You want to hold 33psi to redline on a 16g?

Try using some colder gas. ;)

Exactly(agreed). Over upper 20's isn't happening.

Yeah our turbo's will always drop at the higher rpm. They aren't efficient enough and just run out of steam. Although if you went with an external wastegate you could hold the boost ALOT better to redline.

Re: Can't hold boost, did a boost leak test, check inside.

well 2gtsi on here was holding 29psi steady to redline. CB holds 30psi to redline.
Others spike mid to high 30s but still settle in the high 20s.

Anyone heard of the AFPR leaking how i described?
Know where i can get the TB welded?

Do you still run a 2.4?

Let's see logs or video, otherwise I call BS. Evo guys claim the same shit, and it just isn't realistic on a 16g, even on a 2.0. Besides, boost does not always equal more power, as seen on both Jim and Hughes learned on friday.

2.0 stock internals. Time to sell me the Evo 3 and upgrade to a Holset.

Re: Can't hold boost, did a boost leak test, check inside.

I have seen dyno graphs, the one for CB are all over tooners and link forums.
I talked to Jim and he said his boost is falling off, the only other thing i can think of is the intake pipe being stock could be a restriction.

Steve i am on a 2.0L.
This turbo is going no where but to hell when i done with it, whats a holset?

I've heard of AFPR's leaking at the top by the adjustment nut. I personally put teflon on mine so I don't have to worry about it.

Holset is a brand of turbo's.

I used solder to fill my TB nipples, works great.

I couldn't hold more than 26psi on my previous 16g.

Re: Can't hold boost, did a boost leak test, check inside.

My tb is JB welded:) The only way to hold that kind of boost on these turbo's is to go external pretty much..
