Will DSMs Ever Be Valuable?
 

Do you guys think DSM values may ever increase as time goes on (assuming we still have gasoline in the years to come haha)?

I know I see less 1Gs and even less clean ones.

I'm sure 2Gs are getting that way as well.

Doubtful, but if you find the right young kid with rich parents, you are set. :D

Haha I agree, I don't think they will really go up in value. I don't really understand why, since the awd turbo editions are so nice to have.

the past two 2gs that i have purchased in running order have been under $2000. The GST i had was $2000, and the GSX i have now was $1000. and both were able to drive home with no problems :)

They will mostlikey go up in value in about 20-25 years, IMO. Just like the older Camaro/Firebird/Mustangs of today, our generation will be restoring them. "hey I had one of those when I was a kid, wish I still had it, fun car"....sound familiar? History repeats itself and DSM's are the muscle cars of today. Again all just my opinion.


edit: Also depends of success of the EVO/WRX and other "modern muscle".

I am starting to see decent 1Gs go for more than 2Gs sometimes, but the 95-96 DSMs are usually in pretty bad shape.

I think Dontstopme hit it right on the head. The current musclecar boom is from teens and twenty-somethings buying new Camaros and musclecars back when they were $3500 brand new, getting rid of them with family's and such, then wanting their old glory days when they're in their 50's and 60's and have the cash. Being in the middle of the two era's, I find myself wanting to pick up my high school car, a late 70's Monza Spyder and fix it up right. I think the kids buying DSM's today for pocket lint will be wanting a really nice one some day, and they're being parted out on a daily basis, which will make them harder to find and more valuable. This is part of the reason I haven't tried to sell mine many times when I get sick of it.

I agree, they will eventually go up, but don't expect a supra type following. Clean ones are going to be the key.

Hell, I remember when you could buy a running 1970 Chevelle or 1969 Camaro for under $2000, something to think about.

My thoughts exactly. I think if I get rid of mine I'll regret it a few years down the road. This is the first car that I've actually cared about keeping nice, I want to keep it for quite some time. Sometimes the issues piss me off, but they're mostly caused by me anyway.

I don't think they will be worth a ton, but if your car is clean and done right you could def. make some money on it.

My buddy picked up late last year, a 92 Talon TSi AWD, FULLY stock from the original owner w/ 96k miles on it. From the south so it's CLEAN, for only $2700!

I think they will retain value to those who know what they are. I know of a guy who had a 1989 Turbo Trans Am in a shed that was completely MINT, like 1000 miles on it, and he sold it for $4K. If you know what they are its alot better in deciding there value.

They will. There have been (2) 1Gs sold by NABR members in the last couple of years that fetched the $7.5-$10K mark. One of which was just up the road from me in Waterloo.

I think they might be in some time. I'm sure there are a lot of DSMers out there who will one day actually want another, kinda like what was said earlier.

Well just like I have a guy down the street from me that is like 55 years old and is completley obsessed with his 91 talon that he bought brand new in 91 and has TONS of money invested into it and IS the cleanest 1g that I have EVER seen.

He will never part with it and if he can hold on to it for 17 years and still be in love with it then all of us dsmer's have something to look forward to so suck it up and have no regrets...

I've had mine for over 15 years so far, and if possible, will keep it until I die or until it is stupid valuable for some reason.

The guy I bought it from(retired old guy) bought it new, owned it for two years, put 9k miles on it, and when I saw it the first time, it was stored on jack stands. It had never seen rain, snow or salt at all. He believed the car would be a collectors item because it was the first collaboration between Mitsu(Jap company) and Chrysler(US company). His wife said F that I want a Caddy that she would actually drive..

So it's a salt free, winter free car that I've modded the sh*t out of.
