Turbo inlet question
The 20g on my car has a whatever size inlet and an intake hooked up with the MAS and a filter. Some of you reading or many others out there with cars run without any intake piping MAS and filter.
My question is, is there any advantage to running without any of those things? Just for an idea how, How does one go about tuning a car to run without the MAS. How likely are you to suck something up if you leave the inlet open to everything? If I ever get serious with my car it looks like I may have to go that route, but it seems like a hassle + I'm not into external wastegated turbos. There's a turbo has fancied my eye for shits ang giggles which has a 4" inlet and has no internal wastegate. Curious George |
Re: Turbo inlet question
If you remove the stock MAS you're going to have to get something else to read airflow, like a GM MAF and a MAFT, you can't just remove it and call it good. If you do that you could just stick a cone filter right on the turbo, but it's pretty hot air right there. You don't want to run without a filter though, the previous owner of my former turbo did that and it chipped up the compressor fins.

Re: Turbo inlet question
Running a street car is a dumb idea. Look at all the junk stuck in your filter sometime and imagine all that going through your engine.
If you want to run MASless you'll either need a speed density or GM MAF setup in the UICP. If you do this, at least run an intake pipe to get the air filter from out behind the radiator. |
Re: Turbo inlet question
You don't want to run a turbo with no filter on it on a street car and you don't want to suck extremely hot air from right behind the radiator either.
You can run a 4" inlet turbo with a 2G MAS. |
Re: Turbo inlet question
Using a GM MAF, is the translator something a part of getting my ecu reburnt?
Where exactly do they go? In front of my TB? In the future I am planning on fabricating a cold air box behind my headlight. Plus needing someone to build me a custom intake piping that has a dump tube for my bov. sorry for the 100 questions, trying to learn on here for later |
Re: Turbo inlet question
Just run a 2G mas instead. Think of all the money you could put towards cams, injectors, dsmlink, tuning, alky injection, E85 conversion components, or even a bigger turbo before you get hellbent on removing the MAF with MAF-T or go to a speed density setup.
Look at shane's car. SC61, HKS272's, 2G mas, FMIC, and burnt chip. 470-560whp, depending on the dyno. Woot. |
Re: Turbo inlet question
I've got the works already done to my car. I just need to get the bolt-ons to make the real HP.
I got the entire motor rebuilt with 2g mas, 2g exhaust mani, injectors, cams, rebuilt tranny. eprom, no lift, stutter. whatever else I can't think of. |
