First off, no BS, real first-hand info only please. I will be running a blow-though GM MAF setup and I want to know people's experiences with and without the screen in place. Thanks.

I helped jesse install his blow through. Its pretty simple to install. about 1/2 hr for us. We've only run it with the screens installed. The car seams to spool alot faster. The most noticiable difference was in the sound, spool up and blow off sounds are really loud  We didn't have mutch luck tuneing with it. I'd stick to to an AFC or something with wider adjustments for tuneing.

Yea Ive only used it with the screen but I might get rid of that screen soon. It is kinda nice in case you stick you finger near the turbo and your finger tip goes throught the piping. Atleast it wont go in the engine hehe.
No but yea the sound is louder and intake is the loudest as there is no maf to conceal the turbo spool. |
I have no DSM experience with these, but when the F-body guys de-screen them, it normally screws with their idle. They say it is generally a bad idea with little to no gains.
|
The screens perform the same function as the screens in the dsm maf's. WIthout them, the airflow isn't straightened and doesn't get read the same (i think). I'd leave it in if I were you.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I would leave the screen in, but try to get a 3.5" out of a vette. This will help flow and make up for the screen. I have not tried to tune with the trans, and I dont think I will. I just set it up to take care of my 880cc injectors(-45%). And I use a AFC to fine tune, dose not take long to get a rock solid A/F.

What John described is exactly what I did last year. Used the MAFT for the base settings (injectors) and used the S-AFC to fine tune. Its nice not trying to use an SAFC to compenste for bigger injectors.
|
I will be running a 3", I do not want to step from 2.5" piping to 3.5", I am afraid that would cause too much turbulence. If the 3" seems to be holding me back I'll upgrade. I will be using the Translator just to compensate for the injectors and possibly to set a base idle. The AFC will be used for all real tuning.
|
I should use it to get my idle a little better, but I have to go under the hood, un screw a few things, and turn stuff, I would rather push buttons on old blinky blue from my seat.

Buttons are nice :) I wouldn't mind having my Translator in the glove box, but that would most likely require some custom fabbed harnesses and I am already feeling lazy about stuff.
|
I had to adjust the idle knob on the MAFT, think I richened it up 10%.

My camaro runs great without the screen, but I miss the intake whistle. On a 99 v6 camaro, removing the screen Gave 5hp and 8ft lbs at the rear wheels. Its really an "air straightener" to keep the airflow smooth over the MAF sensor. GM removed them on all the 405hp zo6 vettes.
|
Leave it in.
|
I took mine out, and it is faster then befor, I cant wait to see what it will do at the track.
~John |
John, after you removed the screen did you notice and differences in idle or tuning adjustments?
