Project Spyder 2009 Build

So I have been working on the Spyder again since I had issues with the motor smoking last fall under deceleration. Well I pulled the motor and switched it up a little bit. I tore the motor down to bare block again and sent it over to Motors By Gosh (Great Guy and THANKS!) to have it punched over 20, resurfaced, and all of the other goodies he does.

Freshly painted and machined block. The new 2.3

I then found a new crank, rods, and pistons so a little bit of clearancing of the block was needed.

That was all that was needed for clearancing and then the crank went in.

I ground the rings to spec and installed the rods and pistons.

More to come.

Tonight I installed the head with a Perma Torque and A-1 head studs. I also got the water pump installed. I am just waiting for gaskets to show up to put on the other parts now.

Did you ever find out why it was smoking?

I am 99% sure it was the rings because I did not build my previous 2.0 the way I should of so I'll have a better setup now! Never build a motor without fitting the rings to the cylinders. Live and learn.

Hey Kerry on the Ebay o2 housing you have, is it 2.5" or 3" outlet? I was looking at that but the guy never answered my question.

It's a full 3" setup and I am making my own custom exhaust all the way back.

I am running an SCM6152rs ball bearing turbo.

I got more done tonight and took a few photos. I will try and get the rest of the odds and ends on the motor this week and maybe even drop it in this weekend.

I think its an "XS power" housing, I'd imagine they did that so it wold bolt up to the wastegate better.
