The long drive..

Well I drove my red talon back to school in Chicago for the first time. Made it there without the slightest of a problem! Not saying I wasn't confident but you guys know how it goes. The best part of it all is I got 26mpg! My stock panda was only getting 23mpg bone stock. This also was on E85.

Quick list of mods:

16g
E85
950cc
BC 272's
3" exhaust
Dejon intake with 2g mas
Spearco FMIC

This is my first time taking my car on a long drive and I'm just happy to get that good of gas mileage out of the car. I just thought I'd share since I'm bored. haha :)

Yeah, DSMs aren't the most comfortable long trip cars, but what can you do?

Mine saw a fair amount of trips between MN and Ames, IA last summer, and the previous owner did Duluth to the Cities and back pretty much every weekend for the 4 years he was in school up there, so it's not exactly a stranger to long drives.

Yeah I made the trip with my panda 10+ times and it never had a single problem. I'm just happy with the 26mpg. Better then I expected!

The worst part about long trips, at least for my car, is the lack of cruise control.

Re: The long drive..

damn. correct me if im wrong, but last time i went to chicago, it took me 6 hours. I was there chillin with my cousin whom was attending UTI also. Chicago cars are quite the crazy ones at night though.

farthest i've driven with the galant is RF and back but I wanted to cruise more. Pretty comfy but i'd much prefer the evo 8 seats!

I made the trip to chicago, when I was going to UTI, in my laser 3-4 times. Never had a problem. Then again my laser was damn near stock, except a fmic, and intake...haha. I got those drives down now, I can make it to chicago in around 6-6.5hrs.

I have the taller 5th gear that I am hoping to take advantage of.

I don't have CC, AC, or PS. :)

They are insanely crazy. Gotta watch all mirrors at all times!

Best time I got was 5 hours 45 mins. Usually average 5 hours 50mins to 6 hours.

Re: The long drive..

Last fall on the Duluth Cruise I averaged 26-27 mpg. I wasn't exactly nice to the car on the way up, but the cruise back home was a little smoother.

Re: The long drive..

I really should have clocked my milage when i drove from MN to CA when i first came down here. in my 1999 GSX Auto All i really had done was intake, T28 turbo and HKS Blow off valve (to atmos) and over the 1975 miles i only had to fill up i think 5 or 6 times. one of the times i was still at a quarter of a tank. but i feel i was getting pretty good milage considering i had everything i could fit into the car and a friend.

Re: The long drive..

congrats on the long drive, driving an almost 20 year old car that you have almost doubled the power on is no joke.

Yeah, my trunk is usually loaded with a bunch of clothes and groceries. Now my only problem is EVERYONE who walks by my car stops and looks and tries looking inside. It's a good compliment that my car is clean but it still scares me. Good thing it's parked right outside my balcony!
