Local Head Porting/Machining

Who do you know (that you trust) that does head porting locally? I'm yanking the head off my evo to replace the headgasket, and I'm looking for a 5-angle valve job, check/machine the bottom for flatness, and port/polish the runners. I have a quote from Bob @ MAP but am just checking to see if anyone has anyone else they might recommend.

I had John Gosh check for flatness last time, anyone know if he does valve jobs too?

I've always had a positive experience with the Red Rooster in Crystal, although they do get a little spendy.

Norther Cylinder Head in Andover has great prices, but I'd steer away from them because they seem to be a classic case of getting what you paid for.

I haven't had stuff done at headwerks, but I know someone who did, and I went with him to drop it off and the place was very clean, plus I think that's all they do there. And that's the type of place I'd take something like that.

a head rebuild isn't cheap and that was just the porting with the rebuild and tax it was like 900. 500 for a full port and polish is actually a pretty good deal. thats everything ported and polished and port matched to my intake mani and fp cast race manifold. map wants like 950 for a full port and polish

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaah to porting. Money better spent elsewhere on hard parts.

Wow, you need to check my section of the forum if you think $500 for porting is a good deal! Scheides bring it on up and I can do the porting for you, probably even do a trade for my advertising fees for next year or something :D

Like what? I have the turbo I want, intake manifold/tb setup I want, exhaust I want, the cams I want, big-ass FMIC, all hard piping, nice intake, fancy air filter, alky injection, catch can setup, etc etc etc. If there's money to be spent elsewhere, I'll spend it when the time is right. The head is coming off for a HG now, so the time to spend some $$ on porting the head is now.

JET, I'll let you know buddy :)
