Anybody ever use MATLAB?

I'm taking a MATLAB class right now and my instructor is by far the worst I've yet had. I am unable to understand his "english" and his ability to explain what he's doing and why is next to null. But I'm not here to just complain because that wont do anything. He's a really nice guy anyways...

I'm posting this with hopes that somebody might know a thing or two about this program and can lead me to a place where I can learn something. We have our first test on tuesday and nobody really knows what we're doing. We are able to use our book as well as any notes, but neither of those things really explain much.

I feel like I'm being taught how to speak Spanish in French :(

Re: Anybody ever use MATLAB?

^It sucks. The majority of my profs have been foreign (which is just fine if I can understand them) and they've been ok, but this guy not only can't speak English, he sorta studders as well. I mean dang, if you teach a class that deals with computers and writing math code, you should probably learn simple words like: spacebar, and colon, and window for cryin out loud!

Yeah my Stat prof can't even pronounce "standard deviation", it comes out, "standivation" and probability comes out with none of the T's, so its more like proraririty. There's a ton more, but those are just examples

Re: Anybody ever use MATLAB?

we should start a "complain about your prof" thread. Here's an exact copy of what my prof had us copy down. I can just imagine him typing on a forum lol. My head hurts..

"This function evaluates totan number of days elapsed till a certain date of a year."

Having been a CprE, I didn't touch MATLAB, so I can't help, but I asked a EE friend of mine, he knew of a decent one, couldn't find it, but shot me this: http://www.math.utah.edu/lab/ms/matlab/matlab.html

You can also type 'help' into the console, or 'help <command you don't understand>'.

Hope it works out for you.

^thanks so far guys.

grrr I really wanna just find somebody that uses matlab on a regular basis and pay em to write code for me lol. Everybody I've talked to said this class is a big waste and they never actually learned anything.

Teacher at century cracks me up every time he talks. Sounds just like Kim Jong in Team America. When he is talking about tangents, he pronounces it "Tayng-ents". Its sucky/hilarious.

Re: Anybody ever use MATLAB?

I had a circuits professor from Egypt that pronounced just about everything in a funny way.

When he was talking about a "voltage source" it sounded like he said "voltarsaurus" everytime, haha.

Oh and azn profs have a hard time pronouncing the word "resistor" it always comes out "leziztor"

I didn't have any profs. that talked with broken english, but I work with a lot of people from India. The bad part is that I'm starting to understand it. I also worked with a British guy, he was worse I think.
