‘Humbled’ Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Committee says president gives world’s people ‘hope for a better future’

NBC News and news services

updated 1 hour, 4 minutes ago

OSLO, Norway - President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

Nobel observers were shocked by the unexpected choice so early in the Obama presidency, which began less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif said Obama woke up to the news a little before 6 a.m. EDT. The White House had no immediate comment on the announcement, which took the administration by surprise.

Because no other president has tried to reduce world nuclear arms and stop the fighting in the Middle East? Are you kidding me?

I may have voted for the guy, but I don't think he deserves this. Hell, I barely think he deserved my vote anymore.

I would like to be outraged but um, Al Gore already has one. I just don't think I have it in me to care.

I don't honestly see Obama doing a whole lot more than any of us to make this world a better place.

None of us care to make a career out of being a crook... I mean, politician.

Re: Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Obama beat out this guy:

"Compare this to Greg Mortenson, nominated for the prize by some members of Congress, who the bookies gave 20-to-1 odds of winning. Son of a missionary, a former army Medic and mountaineer, he has made it his mission to build schools for girls in places where opium dealers and tribal warlords kill people for trying. His Central Asia Institute has built more than 130 schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan — a mission which has, along the way, inspired millions of people to view the protection and education of girls as a key to peace and prosperity and progress.

Sometimes the words come first. Sometimes, it's better to let actions speak for themselves."

Tis bullshit. This guy sounds way more deserving of the prize than osama.

Ummm...yeah! That guy sounds like the agenda he is pursuing is legit with the interests of others ahead of his own! Obama is a career politician; enough said.

Him and Fatty are probably the only ones who actually think he is deserving of it.

I wonder though, was this some grand publicity stunt by the Obama administration to make Obama appeal to more people by going public and saying he doesn't deserve such a distinguished honor?

Ya that's the way it seems to be taken by everyone.

I'm sure there are more people that have worked a entire lifetime for a good cause that deserve it more than him. He has been president for less than a year so I think its a premature decision.

I really hope that he earns that prize in the next few years....
