In the market for External hard drive
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm looking for something to backup my pics, videos, music, etc. I am currently getting my 250GB HD saved, so i need something at least with that much space. I asked a guy at a computer store and he showed me something that uses a USB cord to a hard drive plug in. He says he likes it cause its less bulky and he can have as many HDs as he wants with one cord. I'm kinda out the loop on everything and I figured you guys would be able to help. Thanks Aaron (also if my HD gets saved I have lots of music to share.) |
Re: In the market for External hard drive
I bought one last spring from a computer store. Basically it's just a 3.5" HD in an external aluminum case. All it takes to plug it in is a power cord that came with the case, and a usb cord to connect it to the computer. Easy as pie to work with, and I know all my important stuff is safe should my computer crash or anything.

Re: In the market for External hard drive
All are decent. I've used seagate and western digital 'mybooks' with great results.
I'm currently using like this: http://www.google.com/products/catal...551&sa=title#p With a 500Gb or 1TB (can't remember) seagate hard drive stuck in it. |
Re: In the market for External hard drive
I didn't know they made those, that piece is awesome if you're wanting to backup on multiple drives.

Re: In the market for External hard drive
Yup and its plug and play too! Only thing is its not quite as rugged as the full enclosures so keep it clear of coolant, oil leaks, and other dsm stuff :D

Re: In the market for External hard drive
Thanks guys. The HD recovery guy said that the main board burned out, so that I could buy another one of the same model and switch parts to hopefully save it.

Any good places to look for an HD from at least 250GB i would say. I'm still looking for a Maxtor A01A250 OneTouch 7200 RPM 250 GB External Hard Drive to save my old data. |
Re: In the market for External hard drive
I've been seeing lots of sales on Externals on Fatwallet. Don't know how much it'll help you out but if you care to take a look here's a link.
WD just had a TB external hard drive for $80 I believe. |

Re: In the market for External hard drive
I run a regular laptop hard-drive inside of a USB enclosure. Very cheap setup, especially if you get it from Fry's or Micro Center!

Re: In the market for External hard drive
I am late to this thread, but the Fed gov gave us some 250GB western digital ones to backup our laptops with. I haven't been very good at regularly backing up my computer, but it is easy to use and I haven't heard of anyone having any issues with them
