Engine Woes - Dong Dong Dong Dong

What would be the cause of the engine making a dong, dong, dong, dong, noise? It sounds like it echos and it is in tune with revving the engine. I'll get sound/video later, but wanted to know what it could be in the meantime.

Did you check your crank pulley?

Re: Engine Woes - Dong Dong Dong Dong

Crank pulley is good. It is still in good working condition. Another ear thinks it is the turbo. The sound appears to be originating above the exhaust manifold and to the passenger side of the cylinder head. It really sounds like dong, dong, dong, dong.

wow, mega rod knock. I wouldn't run it at all anymore till you rebuild the bottom end. At the very least, it's gonna need bearings. At the worst, a crank and whatever rod spun the bearing.

I thought that it is related to the cylinder head as well.

I can't believe it! WTF, I just got done piecing the bottom end back together and putting it back in the car. I didn't even take out the pistons and rods, as the compression was 175 across the board before dismantling it. I had the crank checked over by Crankshaft Supply.

I'll pull the oil pan this weekend and replace all the bearings. Are there any other things I should check while I'm at it?

Re: Engine Woes - Dong Dong Dong Dong

Well if you pull the oil pan and there is a line of metallic shavings in line with the rods or mains then you have to take the crank out, get a new crank, check and possibly replace the rods, make sure the mains didnt spin and wreck the block, and then you can put it back together. Let us know what it ended up being.

Re: Engine Woes - Dong Dong Dong Dong

That's the thing... there wasn't any metal shavings in the oil pan the last time round. Everything LOOKED solid. But, we'll see...again...
