Scheides' New Beater

Last saturday I drove possibly the most beat up evo X I've seen to date. I walked away from it disgusted at how someone could be so careless with such a nice car. Then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought about what a great opportunity this thing could be to get an X for cheap and turn it into a mean machine with my own personal touches. Plus, from about 15 feet away, it looks nice and mean, just my style :)

When I first saw this thing from a distance, it made my heart flutter. Tien coilovers, dark-ass tint, some sort of exhaust...excellent combo! But the damage, OH, the damage...there's scratches on every fender and door, rock chips, dings, gouges, and curbed rims. It's gonna be a project, a long project, but for now I will have to just dub thee: BeaterX!

Looks alright eh? Now look closer:

Tien coilovers, sweet! Driving them through winter w/o washing, bad bad bad!

Has an MBC, and a custom UICP, FMIC, and exhaust made by Excessive Autosport in Sioux Falls.

The thing drives straight, has decent brakes, makes decent power, and all of the SSS package options: fastkey, rockford fosgate stereo w/ sub, HIDs, sat radio, and bigger spoiler (this probably won't stay long! :) ). If anyone does pro body work and wants to earn some brownie points, LMK!

Yay!! I got to drive this car today, It handles nice and goes down the road awesome. Its a little different driving position than the IX.. but I like it! When I sat in X's previously i wasnt sure of the driving position, or the tach location, but after driving it, mind mind changed. Can wait to see what you do with it!

That would look sweet! But since scheides doesnt like black wheels, i dont see this happening!

Its not a metal flex its a rubber coupler in the UICP that looks liek the stock ones used on 8,9,10's

FTFY ;)

That is a stock coupler, I'll take a pic of the custom turbo outlet...it's not the most amazing thing ever, but it looks decent.

Step one is gonna be to move the AWC control button from the steering wheel to center console, perrin rear sway bar, and fix the interior. There is a bluetooth mod for the factory stereo, but its like $275 on top of the $125 in parts for the AWC relocation...would be SO nice but DAMN not cheap!

Forgot to mention--the cloth on the seats is coming apart, the headliner is dirty as fuk, and it doesn't have any floor mats). Oh, and missing undertray, and the front lip is all scraped to fuk!

Also this thing needs summer rubber stat; it has some snow tires on it now that I'd like to last.

Re: Scheides' New Beater

What is AWC? why relocate the button?

Sucks about the interior. Time for some Corbeau/Bride/Sparco/ any other nice seats?

scheides 04-30-2010 11:18 PM

Re: Scheides' New Beater

^ Not sure yet. AWC = All Wheel Control = AYC (Active Yaw Control) + ACD (Active Center Diff). The stock button on the 08's is on the damn steering wheel. Last thing I wanna do is switch to snow mode while mid corner! Plus it opens up room for the 2010 stereo controls, and I have an idea on what to do with the spare button blanks that will end up in the center console :)

This thread made my heart skip a beat. I'm so happy for you, dude. Best of luck with this thing, it looks like it's on par with my POS in terms of shittiness, I hope it doesn't let you down.

congrats on the new car! looks nice sucks that previous owner didn't take care of it. Good luck with it!

Re: Scheides' New Beater

AWC = ACD from the VIII and IX. ( Gravel, Snow, and Tarmac). The button you will play with the most is the ASC button on the left side. Press is once to disable the Traction control, and sportier stability settings, HOLD down the ASC for 3-5 seconds (until the Warning comes on the center display) This disables stability control, traction control, and ABS. The only thing that is always on is the AYC, the best part of this car.

Re: Scheides' New Beater

Congrates on the purchase, hardly a beater, maybe neglected, but it only has what 22K miles? Lots of life left for this one. ;)

Congrats on the car, I love the X's.

May be a good opportunity to "wrap" the car in some cool satin finish(or whatever finish/color you like)?

If you want a set of stock tires, a friend has his stock X wheels with tires sitting around. I know he's going to put snow tires on the wheels, and probably wants to sell the tires.. Should I ask him?

All this talk about vinyl wrap, gah idk, seems silly to me.

I think I'm good on the rubber, I have to bring one of my rotas from my evo8 to precision wheel to get cleaned up and see if the tire is any good, they might be one of the few things I keep from that car LOL.

Nice Scheides! Next time I see you I'll take a look at the car and tell you what I can buff out of it, and what will need paint. I'm sure some of the scratches will come out without needing paint.

goodhart 05-01-2010 12:24 AM

Re: Scheides' New Beater

I think these stock wheels would actually look better than those Rota's. Agree with the wrap being silly also, seems like it could get f-ed up so easily. Hell, Mark and Kevin are both body guys ain't they? have them paint the sucker up!!

EDIT: sure kevin had to post while I was typing... lol
