Spark Plug Gap?
What are people running for a gap on their spark plugs?
NGK R plugs, magnacore 8.5 wires, E85 and 26psi OEM says 32, my car would studder and missfire Was tuned on 25 gap, it had a few misfires at first then LOTS brought it down to 20 (my lowest gap) and had random misfires... |
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
If your still getting misfires at .020 then id check your wires, they could be arcing out.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
he has low compression in a cylinder...
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Wait is it misfiring under boost or all the time?
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Randomly, but only under boost.
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Id check for bad wires.
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Yeah .020" is a very small gap. Most I would ever go down to is .024".
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
should i bring it back up from 20 to 24? ill check all the wires over tomorrow.
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
I would. Ideally you want to make the gap as big as possible without blowing out the spark. I would be testing other things to figure out why your misfiring. Time to swap out ignition parts.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
where would you start?
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
NGK's at .028" is where I have mine at. 60-1 @ 25psi, E85. No issues at all.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
new spark plug wires and maybe try a different set of coils. My 2G would do this horribly on an 'ok' looking set of magnicores. I bought a set of the Taylor 10mm wires and the thing ran like a dream! Get a set, and set to about .024, that's about as low as you should go on pump gas car.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Instead of getting new wires and hoping nothing is wrong with my coilpacks could i just go with a COP system?
|
Re: Spark Plug Gap?
At 32psi on E85, I had to have mine set to around .019 to avoid miss-firing. .018 is the lowest I've heard of anyone running, and is the lowest I'd ever go because that is getting really small.
I decided to get an Arc-2 unit so that I could open my gap back up, but I'm still having the same issue even after the Arc-2 install. My wires are Taylor 10mm's, I've tried BRP6's and BPR7's, I've got a 'different' (wouldn't call them new) set of coils. I'm still having to run around the same gap to avoid miss-firing at 32psi. At 25psi, I'm usually OK around a .024 gap, but I find myself having to change out plugs every few weeks which sucks. I may get rid of my taylor wires and try something else, just not sure which yet. I might just go back to OEM NGK wires. |

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
For the money, I would skip the COP and just get a good working stock system first. If the COP messes up, how will you know? New wires are cheap and a used set of coils can be had for cheap as well. Try them first.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Um, what kinda coils does sparktek use? I emailed them about it and they never told me what kind of coils they use.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
I run mine around .026-.028 and it works fine for me. A lean mixture can add to the problem also.

Re: Spark Plug Gap?
Yeah its probably because they use the 300m coils as well which deglorifies there whole company.
