18th century shipwreck found at World Trade Center build site

Pretty amazing. Watched a show about this over the weekend as well. I think it was on the history channel.

My guess is that the ship was used as fill. Aside from burning it, that would be a pretty good use for an old ship. Some of the stuff found seems interesting, but I wonder how much money they would like to spend on figuring out what it is and trying to put it back together? Seems like it would be a big waste of money to restore the ship just for it to sit in a museum or get minimal use.

IMO, I see nothing wrong with preserving history. My grandfather was the president of the county's historical society in my hometown and both he and my grandmother taught me a lot about remembering our past so that future generations know what it used to be like and how we got where we are today.

It is strange there's a ship under the building and I am sure they will waste money restoring it.

Your parents wasted money feeding you as a child, but they still did it. It's not a waste and you are mistaken in saying that. I enjoyed that article very much.

History is very cool, I wish you could appreciate that.

I am interested in seeing what they would do with it if they restore it. If they planned on just putting it on display, it would be more interesting to see it the state it was when pulled out of the ground as opposed to seeing what millions of dollars can do to a old piece of shit.

My last post was pretty harsh, sorry. I don't think they'd restore it unless it said so in the article, it would be more interesting in its current state.

I don't understand where this talk of wasting money came from. I'm willing to bet that the money for preserving what they found will come from grants given to the team from colleges, museums and companies interested in restoring and preserving history, not the government which you all seem to suspect.

That uis really cool. They should restore it so it does not decay any more. It should stay in ny.

I think they should restore it and take it out on Tonka. Let Andrew do some epic wakeboarding behind it then dock it at Maynard's.

^LOL lets do this.

And I agree with everyone else on restoring it or atleast finding more about it. They say it may even have a name and they can figure out what it was used for, etc.

This made me LOL i guess some are more interested in history then others. For example im not quite interested in the first made cars. . .but i am interested in how they have come from where they were to what they are now. Its interesting how you can like various things. Anyways funny post.

I think the point was, everyone likes different things. Just because one person doesn't like something, doesn't make it a waste just because that person thinks so.
