HID's in aftermarket 2g headlight
 

Ok, so my car came with aftermarket ebay headlights-the black housing with halo's ones. So i was in the market to put some HID's in my car, looked at the bulb in the headlight and they had H1 bulbs. So I got a H1 bulb kit. Went to hook them up, and they look like any plug and play kit. (positive, negative, and ballast) So i unhooked the connectors for the bulb in the housing, thinking i could use them for my + and - connections. But when i hooked up the hid kid through them, nothing happened. So then i bench tested the kit(straight to the battery) and they worked just fine. So im wondering if I have to completely bypass the wiring to original H1 bulb, or if I have to go through and wire up my own switch for the headlights.

I had the same thing happen with my HID kit and I had the black housing halos in my 2g. For some reason the ground wasn't working right, I never did end up installing them.

When I did the HID's in my 1g with aftermarket housings, I found that the wiring in them was backwards. The geniuses who made the aftermarket housings used red wiring for the negative and black for the positive. Not sure what 2g housings look like, but all I had to do is swap wires and it worked.

i did try switching the wires around, but still had nothing. I think my next step is just trying to bypass the aftermarket wiring for the headlight, and go to the stock connector.

ok so i finally got out to my garage today with a multimeter to try and figure this out, and it turns out that the aftermarket wire colors are backwards. there was a blue and a black, naturally i thought black was ground. but the voltmeter told me different. blue was ground and black was power. So now i have 10k's worth of light and no issues. :)

Ya i mean i switched the wires around before but nothing happend. Must have had a bad connection. Oh well, now I know I suppose

Sounds like who ever wired the headlights to the car did it wrong. I have those headlights in my car and mine didnt just "plug in". I had to cut the plug off of my oem headlights and wire it to the Ebay headlight wiring. I found that both the high and low beams share the same power so I had to T that to both of them. The body turns on the lights by activating the ground.

Anyway, I have seen many of these headlights installed ass backwards with additional wires ran and other bs. Might wanna check under the headlight behind the bumper and see what's there.

Also, fwiw, I think my 8k hids suck behind the projectors that come in these lights. I might just retro fit some good projectors into oem 2gb headlights.

Yes..lol My bad. 10000k

And my headlights themselves plugged right into the stock connector. It was just connectors directly to the bulb that were backwards.
