A very good friend of mine just got sentenced to 10 years on drug charges.A few years back another person I knew was shot and killed, the fucker that shot him was only sentenced to 7 years.How does that work?

Nope, nothing fishy.This guy went over to his house with the intent to shoot him, he ended up with a "manslaughter" type charge, because both of them had guns, even though the person who got killed didn't show/pull his.

That's BS. No way it should have been a manslaughter charge if he never pulled his gun.

On a side note, $100 says he'll only spend 6-7 years in jail.

He has to serve a minimum of 85%, so 8.5 years

Ya if you go kill a Bird thats on the Exstinked list, You could face 10 years. Kill somone and get 5-7.

Really. When I was in HS, I was tought that people generally serve 70-75% of thier sentance.

That is messed up. Today in my city a 24 year old guy got like a 7 year sentence (cocane) but he only has to spend 6 months in jail. After that he has to buy a coffin and keep in in his house to remind him that if he starts up again just where he will go... now that sounds crazy.

Unfortunately the court system is in no way uniform. The way cases are tried, your fate depends on the judge, prosecuting attorney and your defense attorney and of course the jury. There are a lot of variables there under the law. Sorry to hear your friend got such a stiff sentence.
