Well I got up this morning and car wouldn't start, found out I needed a new battery. So I put that in and smoke started coming from my fuse box under the dash and from the wire for a spoiler that I don't have on the back of the car. The wire in the back was exposed and was grounding. This fried and melted my brake fuse, so I cut it out and got the fuse back in. Then when I put the negative back on the battery the brake lights stay on. So I got a new fuse box out of a friends parts car and put it in, same thing is happening.
Anyone have any ideas? |
If we ever meet up to fix your other wiring issues, I can fix that also

Alright, Do you know what's wrong? I have to drive to work tomorrow with no brake lights.
Is it anything I can do myself. Could you meet me at QPR tomorrow night? |
I'd have to look at it to tell you whats wrong. And no I wouldn't be able to meet you tomorrow, if you can bring it to my house Wed or Thurs I could take care of it.
|
Alright just Pm me with some directions and I'll comeout there tomorrow night.
Thanks |
Does anyone know what happens when your brake light switch goes out?
Do your brake lights stay on or off? Mine stay on and I was thinking that might be the problem, just thought I'd ask to see if anyone has had to replace their switch before I go get a new one. |
The switch can go out in the off or on position. When you depress your pedal, your switch engages causing your brake light to come on. now if you had your foot on the brake when a surge hit that circuit, then it could have melted the contacts together causing your lights to stay on. This may or may not be your problem, but it's something you could possibly check out on your own. To check it, crawl down and look at your brake pedal. without touching it, locate your brake switch. It should be a little piece of plastic screwed into a bracket in front of the brake pedal assy. Then go ahead and push the brake pedal down and you'll notice a little nipple sticking out of the switch. you should be able to push this nipple in or out and turn off and on your brake lights. you will probably need a buddy to stand behind your car and verify this. But if you can do this and nothing changes or you can't move the nipple at all, it's probably safe to assume that its your switch and you'll need a new one. if you can make them shut off then you just have to adjust it. To do this, you just put some force on it pushing it towards the front of the car a couple of clicks. Not too far, just far enough so your pedal makes cantact with it again. But, if you have any reservations about tackling it then please don't. Get to someone who is knowlegeable about this sort of problem. I would hate to see another DSM toasted because you did something wrong or weren't sure and fried the wiring even more. I wouldn't worry about driving w your brake lights on most people just keep their distance when they see that. It makes em think your some sort of old fart that rides his brakes. LOL. Anyway I hope this helps even a little. Good luck, Wes.

Its your brake SW, unplug it, lights should go out. :goodluck:
|
Nope I already tried unplugging the brake light switch and the brake lights still stay on. The only thing that turns them off is unplugging the fuse.
|
That sucks!
|
check your brake fluid level.
i had same thing hapen on my 2g, no matter what i did with the switch it would do it... until i actualy bled the whole system and refiled the brake fluid fully thats when the light went out. i didn't beleive it either until i did it and the light went out... at first just try filling up the brake reservoir and see if the light goes away. -E |
I'm not sure if that would help these are my brake lights that are staying on I'm not sure what light you're talking about.
Anyways, I tried the brake light switch and that didn't help so I'm guessing it must be the wiring, which sucks. |
