They are unlike anything else. FYI, you will have a hard sale around here it took a very long time to find a reliable place.

No they're not, they are pretty standard. Even the old style V8 guys are now machining with deck plates and such, which aren't absolutely necessary, but a nice addition. They do have to be a good, experienced machinist though.

Exactly.. Red rooster cleaned up my block and head back in the day. Anyplace should be able to do it.

well I wasn't talking about simple decking blocks and heads, hell I've had carquest do that.

I'm talking about machining for a built motor, but we can forget about that here.

Re: new machine shop

It's still the same, each of the aftermarket piston suppliers provide the proper piston-to-wall spec for their piston, and a little knowledge helps to know if you want to go beyond that for higher horsepower applications. But for 98% of those out there, the those specs are just fine and can be done by any competent machine shop. The real trick is in assembly, where I learned the hard way about ten years ago, that not all speed/machine shops can actually do that. And no, I'm not talking about any existing shops here, who all do fantastic work. This shop is long gone.
