Fuel pump questions
Okay I've been playing with the idea of switching fuel pumps. I kinda want to make sure I don't run out of fuel pump on the dyno when she's getting tuned. Now I have ford gt pumps which are basically not much better than walbro 255s.
Now onto the questions. How much power do you guys think these pumps can support? I've been looking into the walbro 400s but have recently been finding info that these are gas only pumps and not to use them with e85? anyone know how they would handle e85? Now the walbro 450 is the e85 version of the 400 quite a bit more expensive but seems to be one hell of a pump. Now my question on this is with dual in tank pumps can you run a larger pump and a smaller pump? Or will will the larger pump overrun the smaller pump and make the smaller pump not effective? I ask this because I don't think I would need the fuel 2 450s would supply and for the price of two 450s I would just get a boost a pump instead Also anyone have any experience with dw300 or aeromotive stealth 340 pumps? My next idea was switching to twin dw300s or stealth 340s Any fact based info and opinions are appreciated. Sorry for rambling lol. |
Re: Fuel pump questions
From what I've heard the dw300 doesn't flow much more than the 255hp. Also I believe Scheides is running the 400 not the 450 or at least he was with little to no issues. He can chime in though.
Also read on tuners that people were having issue with the 450 not flowing what it says it can and maxing the pump out around 600-650. Just what I have read I guessing can try to dig up the tuners link to in the mean time. |

Do you know if scheides is running dual 400s? Otherwise hopefully he will chime In |
Re: Fuel pump questions
400 pump evo owners just skimming over thread haven't seem an real issues.
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-eng...0lph-fp-4.html 450pump http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt...l-walbros.html Read post 9 till end of thread From what gathering you should do a 400 with a Bosch o44 inline. |
Re: Fuel pump questions
I don't think he is. I thought he had a 400 and BAP. But yeah heat chime in.

Re: Fuel pump questions
Thanks for the link. It seems most of the people running the inline pump were 2gs which have limited space in the tank. I already have an in tank dual pump set up and mostly looking for something I can just drop in. Even in that evom thread there was a guy who had issues with the regular 400 on e85. That's enough to keep me away from the dual 400s. Just not worth the risk for my investment.
So right now the options are keep my pumps and see what they do, replacing one of my pumps with a wally 450, twin aeromotive 340s, or adding a boost a pump to my current pumps |
Re: Fuel pump questions
I guess you can throw the treadstone 340 in the mix too. It's kind of cheap so sounds a little too good to be true lol

Re: Fuel pump questions
What about a 450 feeding a inline Bosch 044?

Re: Fuel pump questions
I just read on 3 different boards people were achieving 700+ with 255 Wally's in parallel. So I'd try your pumps first. Then go from there.

Re: Fuel pump questions
I am running the wally 400 e85 version right now, i guess its called the 450. It's hardwired right now to battery voltage.
I am currently around 650whp and I am out of injector right now. I am going with 2150's soon I think to solve that and hopefully I can get my fueling under control. If I run out of fuel still after this then I will simply run a BAP. |

My car already put down 760ish awhp at map with these pumps, 1650cc injectors and the base fuel pressure at 54psi. I now have 2150s and the fuel pressure down to 40psi so that should help. But how much more do these pumps have in them? I've read a lot of threads saying one wally 255 can support 450-500 on e85 so in theory 2 should do 900 to 1000.if that's the case these should be enough. Quote:
Now what I would like to know if anyone can answer can you run one pump that is larger and one that is smaller when the pumps are set up in parallel? |

Yes I am indeed running the w400 non-e85 version (wasn't out yet when I bought mine). It's pumping e85 and I'm running it with a BAP at full voltage. Have probably 10k miles on it over the last year. Quote:

This is a pretty good example of a nice simple evoX setup. You'll get further with it on a 1G since the X's have a fuel tax of some sort. OP, I'd say don't run mismatched pumps in your hanger, you're right--the 400 will overcome the smaller pump and maybe even burn it out. Still, IIRC on touley's car (evoIX) they ran it with dual modded 255's and a single BAP and I *think* the BAP only bumped the voltage on one of the pumps. So you only have dual 255's right now? Have you popped the relief valves? Considered a BAP as mentioned above? Otherwise get two of the W450's (since they make an e85 version now, don't bother with the non-e85 version, just my opinion) and see if they fit. |

Re: Fuel pump questions
I say just do the relief valves and twin BAP.

Re: Fuel pump questions
It's sounding like that might be the best route to go

Re: Fuel pump questions
Okay problem solved! Thanks for the help guys! I called kenne bell and they said with the way my pumps are wired in i can run the 40amp single pump version but to put it before the relay.
