i cant embed to save my life take what you will from the vid, what i got is that if you call him and have cash in hand and are 100% serious on what you want done he will do it |
Re: shep trans?
Ya I got that also. It you guarantee a purchase hell do it. Bit at least he said dogboxes he is 100% still doing. But I have no idea how much they cost.
I have been toying with the idea of building another 2g. But for around here it would prettt much be a road race car that me and my brother would race when he comes to visit which is why I was trying to find a price for the dogbox. Thanks for the video post btw |
Re: shep trans?
wouldn't a normal built trans work for a road race car? You'd think you wouldn't be making super gobs of gear breaking power in a road race type of car.

Re: shep trans?
They're about $5500. But with all the advancements using EVO1-3 parts in the trannies now, a dogbox isn't really necessary. Also check out the E3 LSD rear end that's now popular for road racing, that's also on my winter upgrade list.

Re: shep trans?
Yeah, I would think you would want synchro's for road racing.
|
Re: shep trans?
what on top of the $5500 is needed to run a dog box?

Re: shep trans?
ok I just wondered if there was other things needed to run a dog like certain clutch setups etc.
|
Re: shep trans?
I wasn't sure of the pricing between trannies etc. And if it wasn't that much more I would opt for thw dogbox. As this would more then likely be a full time track car.
And I also live 5miles f rom an 1/8th mile track if I ever fot the urge to drag again. (90 miles to the 1/4mile track) |
Re: shep trans?
Twin disk is your friend and plumbing a cooler, I almost did it to my old 5 spd then I sold it.
|
Re: shep trans?
Twin disc is great for drag, not sure if it's needed for road racing. Mine engaged pretty nice on the street, but made a lot of noise at stoplights. Combine that with the gear whine of a dogbox and you'd have plenty of "because racecar" noises.

Re: shep trans?
"Needed?" Probably not but sure seems to be the winner in the evo world. I dont run one but wouldnt mind it lol

Re: shep trans?
Magnus makes an Exedy Twin for 6 bolt dsm's now. And triple
|
Re: shep trans?
I paid around $5600 for mine.
|
Re: shep trans?
twin must allow for more slip as obviously singles can hold the power fine. mine just shocks the crap outta everything. oh how an extra 6k would be nice lol
|
Re: shep trans?
More clutch disk=more torque holding power.
|
Re: shep trans?
i really didn't have a problem with my 2900 6 puck and made decent torque on my 2.4 in fact the diff covers and driveshaft u joints say it holds. i actually want more slip. maybe driver mod is needed

Re: shep trans?
Dogbox for road racing? I'd recommend a TRE stage 4 which comes shotpeened with close ratio gears. I rev to 10K like its nothing and have never had any issues or gear lock out.
Then on top of all that you can also get the isotropic superfinish treatment to the gears. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...pisotropic.jpg |
