New clothing rules for E85
"For unaltered full-bodied OEM vehicles with an
unaltered fuel system using ethanol or methanol and unleaded gasoline fuel blends such as E-85 or gasohol the Protective Clothing requirements are the same as those for gasoline. See Class Requirements. For any vehicle other than an unaltered full-bodied OEM vehicle with an unaltered fuel system using ethanol or methanol fuel blends in excess of 15% by volume such as E-85, requires the same protective clothing as is required for 100% alcohol and/or methanol fueled cars. For ethanol or methanol fuel blends of 15% or less the Protective Clothing requirements are the same as those for gasoline. See Class Requirements." If you're running E-85 better be ready to spend some more money. "9.99 and faster, any vehicle, supercharged or turbocharged with alcohol: Suit meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/15, gloves and boots meeting SFI Spec 3.3/5 mandatory." Thanks to Hal Landry for posting this info. Glad I have a small turbo. :cheer: :bf_nonew: |
Re: New clothing rules for E85
I don't think that's a new rule, its been around for a couple of years. I was asked one time for the sfi15 suit and was warned.

Re: New clothing rules for E85
5 point roll bar is legal to 9.99@135, tubing needs to be DOM 1 3/4" OD .125" wall mild steel, or DOM 1 3/4" OD .083" wall Chrome Moly
8 point roll cage is legal to 8.50@150, tubing needs to be DOM 1 5/8" OD .125" wall mild steel, or DOM 1 5/8" OD .083" wall Chrome Moly. In a unibody car there needs to be at least 1 6"x6" 10 gauge mild steel plate fully welded for each point, or sandwitch with 2 plates and 4 3/8" bolts. And the 8.50 cage needs a bar running across the floor at the bottom of the main hoop for the D bars to go to. All mild steel weld joints can be either MIG or TIG welded, any joint with Chrome Moly needs to be TIG welded with ER70S2 rod. The drive door bar for both roll bar and cage can be swing out or removable, the passanger door bar is nice to keep it looking symmetrical and strong, but not required. Also 8 point roll cages need to be certified every 3 years by NHRA and need a properly installed window net and 5 point harness on the driver side. |
