looking to get into DSMs the hard way
I've been a member for a while; i figured id finally introduce myself.
As the screen name might suggest i'm researching a 4G63 RWD swap for my S10. I've got a basic idea of the large components I'll need (current thought is an adapter from Bills Auto Fab and a W series trans), its the smaller big details of the swap, like wiring and engine management options, that I'm in need of more research on. Any advice or options to look into on the topic of common ECU mods or preferred methods of tune-ability are appreciated. |
Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
Recommendation: Go with a V8 LS Swap.
If you are hell bent on the same weight with 2x the problems and 1/2 the hp (w/o mods), any ECMLINK ecu setup with bolt ons should get you to around 400whp (larger turbo), much more than that on a 1st or 2nd gen motor you'll want to start thinking about internals. |

Didn't MAP have a 4G63 Chevy S10 at one point?

Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
I haven't heard of one yet.
I'd second the LS swap. The 4G63 is cool and all, but the LS is way cooler unless you want AWD, RWD, not so much. |
Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
Now that I think about it more, it may have been a LS swapped S10. It was Kyle's project.

Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
I'm not hell bent on a 4G swap really. Although I am a fan of the LS swap idea, a guy really only needs so many V8 trucks (this would be number 4 if it went that route), so I was wanting something different yet still cool. I had more of a DD end result in mind than a modded out high hp setup. I'll get some pics of the truck posted up soon, I haven't actually bought any parts for this yet. It's still just research and big ideas.

So I apparently don't have any pics of the S10 in this phone, but here are pics of the summer DD and the Luv.

Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
I hate to say it, but gotta agree.
Hard to beat a $300 junkyard LS series engine. I need one in a car at some point soon. We've thrashed a junkyard 4.9 in a C5 on track for about.. 100 hours and the damn thing doesn't miss a beat. |
Re: looking to get into DSMs the hard way
Agree on LS swap, it sucks because I have a ton of knowledge about the 4G63 and I'm having a hard time trying to learn about other stuff.
But I'd say LS swap or I6 motor or bigger. 3.0L + turbo is perfect. |
