Is it a bad idea for a car driven in the winter? I read somewhere that you may have to use the gas petal to warm your car up.
Would sheet metal do to block it off (~18 gauge) or should I go with something thinker? |
|
Why would you want to remove it?

so its all a big difference between an i and an a

If you suspect that your FIAV is junk and your car bounces through the rpms back and forth in startup and at idle your FIAV might be bad and if you block it off your idle will be fine...
The only reason to block it is idle problems after youve eliminated the ISC, EGR and other suspects of Idle surge. I would try and find another TB or FIAV to swap out if you ahve idle problems. |
you can test if it's the fiav by simply bypassing the tb with the coolant lines without blocking off the fiav. if it's functioning, just keep it, and track down the bad isc/egr/dirty tb or intake manifold air leak
|
Of course he may just want to keep from having coolant circulate through the TB. I have had mine bypassed for 2 years and never had a problem in the winter. It also is a good way to eliminate more potential coolant leaks depending on what you do with the old connections. Ask JET about how much those coolant leaks can suck. Sometimes you might even replace a head gasket when you don't have to. :stick:

[/b][/quote] how does removing the fiav lower your intake temp? The coolant circulates around the wax pellet of the fiav only, not the TB. |
Mike is right, I would just rather re-route the coolant lines and not have them near the TB. Would there be a problem with re-routing the lines and not blocking off the FIAV or are they related?
|
Stupid question, what is FIAV?
|
Fast Idle Air Valve.
|
Not a problem just to loop the lines and leave the FIAV open. It will work fine.
|
Thanks, I will do that in a few minutes ;) .

i block that off and the ISC, to be more specific, the entire lower TB assy.
Jet made me a nice plate out of stainless, holes drilled, that fit perfect for $15. he made cher one too actually |
