Will a 2G Tranny Mount to a 1G (6 bolt motor)

Just realized that I haven't asked this question yet. Will my 2G tranny mount to a 1G (6 bolt) Motor?

It's just that in every list I've ever seen of things needed to put a 1G Motor into a 2G there is nothing specified when it comes to tranny's.

And although I've pulled both types of tranny's out of cars it's just been so long I can't remember if they have the same bolt patterns, etc.

Yea it will fit, you just need to use your 2g starter plate.

Depends on what year 2g tranny. 97+ trannies need new inner cups for the axles but you must use the 1g axles since the 2g's are longer. You also need to fiddle with the linkage a little bit. Usually involes swapping over the shift arms. If it's a 97+ AWD tranny, you will need to find a 97+ T-case as well. They changed the ratios for 97.
The starter plate will need to be swapped. I think that is about it. I've done the swap several times. Both FWD and AWD.

You will need a 6 bolt flywheel too Brian. But i'm sure you're on the ball for that.

If he is using the same tranny for the swap, why would he need to put in 1g axles because of a 6 bolt swap? I didn't think the motor moved the tranny over. I don't understand the shift arm thing either. You know he already had the 2g tranny in his car and is swaping in a 6 bolt right?

Are the 1g and 2g axels the same length? Also, are the splines the same? I thought something had a different spline count between the two.

For those who are not following this thread correctly.

Brian has a 2g AWD eclipse that he is swapping a 6bolt motor into. Nothing in the drivetrain will need to be changed, only the starter plat and a 6 bolt flywheel will be needed.

Brian you will also need to do something about the counterweight on the 2g tranny shift arm as it will interfere with the lower radiator hose when routed to a six bolt water pipe. Most people cut them off.

Re: Will a 2G Tranny Mount to a 1G (6 bolt motor)

Got the 6 bolt Flywheel down. Going with 6 bolt ACT lightweight Flywheel.

good to know about the counter weight. I need to get a new radiator anyways as I smashed my motor into it while I was taking it out. So a Fluidyne will be coming sometime.

The whole car thing has kind of been put on the back burner, with everything that's going on around here. But slowly and surely it's getting completed. Once the motor's done (next 2-4 weeks) then shortly after I'll hopefully be putting it in. And then focusing on everything else.

Anyrate thanks for the help with the question.

Sorry....didn't read what he had. But it's good info for anyone swapping a 2g tranny into a 1g 6-bolt car. Sorry. Aside from the starter plate and, of course, flywheel he should be pretty much set.

But the 97+ law still applies. 97+ used different ratio diff and t-case. You can't install a 97+ tranny unless you use a 97+ t-case too. And the axle cups are different too. Meaning, his 95 axles won't work in a 97+ tranny. He would need to find 97+ axles.
