JoeP MBC won't control boost anymore?
 

98, TSI, AWD, Big 16, JoeP MBC.

I've had this JoeP in my Talon and working great for 2+ years now, and today out boosting the car dry from the carwash, and she stumbled bad and spiked to 25 lbs? So I thought WTF?!! I Pulled over and started playing with the JoeP trying to screw it OUT <as per instructions> to lower the boost, and got no change, even with it screwed all the way out, the damm thing STILL boosts up to 25 lbs under load?

WTF, did my JoeP go bad or could my waste gate actuator be shot or???

Any Ideas?

All your vacuum lines still hooked up? If one got knocked loose or is leaking somewhere you will not have the correct boost that the Joe P. is set for.

I just went and checked all the Vac lines they looked ok? Then I took a hammer and tapped on the JoeP MBC, and turned it all the way in and back out, wrapped it again, and tested it this time as having only about 10 lbs!

So now it looks like it's working, like a ball got stuck and loosened when I wrapped it with hammer or?

This maybe a stupid question, but should I squirt some WD40 down in the MBC , or just replace it, as I sure don't want to blow a HG or worse, and if this happens again, I might not be so lucky?

Disassemble it, clean it out with some brake cleaner, make sure there's nothing in there and then put it back together. It doesn't take much for the ball to get hung up.

Double check the seat where the ball seats when you tear it apart. If that has gotten peened down, the ball may be sticking as well. Otherwise, it was probably something stuck in there under the spring.

Also, did you disconnect the vacuum lines and reconnect them at anytime? Maybe you put them on backwards if you did. Just food for thought....

They need cleaning once in a while so thats probably your problem. Some brake cleaner and a pipe cleaner (for the housing) is all you'll need.
