Control Arm Bushing?

Car: 1993 Talon TSI awd

I just had my passenger lowering control arm replaced with a used one. Now when I take left turns it'll start to clunk. You can move that side tire way more than you can with any other tire. It sways back and forth like its loose. I can see the back bushing (furthest from front of vehicle) moving like the bushing is too small. Anyone ever tried replacing one before? I should probably do it before it gets any colder (if its not too hard).

I have a set of polyurethane bushings that have never been used. If you are interested I will sell them to you for what I paid or I'm open to trades. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

The lower control arm (part that goes in the bushing) over time starts to lose diameter from rust, and the bushing gets hard and worn-out, not something you want to see on the dyno moving around like I did. I put in some used ones that had low mileage on them.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

I went to Kline Mitsu and there arent any Mitsubishi Dealers that sell the bushing.

You mean to sell me the whole polyurethane kit or just what I need? I dont think I can afford anything right now. Way too many things need to be repaired on my car first.

I have the whole set for the lower control arms for each side. What are you looking to spend? Maybe we can do cash and a trade if you have anything.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

Arent there only like 3 bushings per lower control arm for the driver and passenger side? How much do you want to sell them for? Right now I have almost No money to spend and the only thing I have that valuable is a 22 spline T-case. I think its a 22 spline, I'm not sure but I'll go check later.

The one I have only has two for each side it is from extreme motor sports. Check http://store.extrememotorsports.com/....cfm/4,344.htm If you need one of the two I will just give it to you.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

Yeah I just need one so far. Wait...how many bushings are on one arm? If there are two, then I might need both. If one is worn out then the other on the same arm must be worn out also. I'll go check at work in an hour or so.

(edit)I only need one bushing on the passenger side control arm. The Driver's side is still good, it's still pretty much brand new.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

Has anyone ever changed the bushings on the any of the front lower control arms? Would I need a special tool to pry the bushing out or does it just slip out. I havent had the chance to lift my car and take off the arm yet so I dont know how it's on.

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

Yea its fun getting the piece that bolts over the bushing to thread the bolt back in :)

I would make sure that that is the real problem... It sounds to me like a ball joint is loose but it could be either. Usually a clunk when turning is a ball joint.

Ahh crap. It cluncks almost everytime I take a left turn. The passenger sie tire moves alot when I try to balance and the car vibrates from the clutch. I guess I'll need a whole new control arm huh? Last time I asked Kline Mitsu they said you HAVE to buy the whole arm, but they were probably trying to rip me off.....I hate that place so bad! Oh yeah, when I look at the bushing and shake the tire I can see the bushing move. So I'm sure its the bushing, but then it cluncks when I turn (ball joint). Might as well buy a whole new arm, huh?

Re: Control Arm Bushing?

Take the wheel off and look at the ball joint. It should be nice and tight but movable from side to side. If its really loose in its cavity then its bad.

From Mitsu you can only buy the whole arm- which is what I did because the hole the ball joint sits in got too big for the replacement balljoint I put in previously and it wiggled loose.

You can try taking the control arm to Red Rooster, buying just a ball joint from them, and have them press out the old one and press in a new one.- this is cheapest.

Last summer I bought a brand new arm from Mitsu at about $170, now its on special order and costs about $260. I'll have to go check out that Red Rooster place. Have an address? Thanks for the help.
