Just get all the upgrades you want and when the parents ask, just say "it was there when we bought it."
Normal parents wouldnt know, unless they're mechanics themselves. I had the exact rust problem with my N1 exhaust, haha. You can get a nice front mount off ebay and paint it like Vicious said. They'll never notice...
