If you want to do 250-300hp this summer, you better get started
get the 16g ($450), get it ported, and run it as low as it will go (like 10psi) and you will be fine. Then, get some 550cc injectors and an afc ($300 if you shop around). Then take it to LSE or DB and have them tune it for ya @ 20psi, and you're good to go!
