MAS/MAF setups are way more consistant. If there aren't any boost leaks, they read the true amount of air going into the motor. Speed density setups just read pressure and don't car about airflow. Most OEMs use MAFs because they compensate well for different weather conditions/loads and can compensate for actual mechanical changes in the car.
Unless you like to mess with things a lot or have some insane setup that needs some of the stuff only an AEM could do then, then you are probably better off running DSMLink or an EPROM ECU. The AEM isn't going to give more power, if anything, you might have to go more conservative on the tune than you would with a stock ECU and make less power.
