When you start racing you will want a back protector. Do your jacket and pants zip together? If not they won't be legal for racing. Even so they tend to rip apart in a moderate to severe crash. I have a 2 pc that zips together for the street and had a 1 pc for racing. I saw one guy that went down with a 2pc and his side was pretty trashed. I am not sure if he had it zipped though, I didn't know him.
