I'll point you back to my post regarding the war. Is it really such a bad thing that we went to Afghanistan? Iraq? We can choose to ignore direct threats against us, and we can choose to ignore threats against our allies and the world at large. In this case, we can choose to ignore threats to a group of people by their own countrymen. However, being a super power, we have the ability and the resources to step into these situations and do something about it.
My largest complaint about the Bush/Cheney presidency is that they weren't open about our goals in the Middle East. Unfortunately, President Obama has been no more open with our intentions or goals. He's only said that were are pulling out by such-and-so date. I'd rather see him say "We will pull out of Iraq when these goals have been achieved."
I still don't quite understand the animosity against the no-bid contracts. It might not have been fair, but I've yet to encounter any business where friends don't get picked first. Though, in my experience business friends tend to come about because of good track records in previous dealings. That may or may not be the case here, but it still put money in the pockets of Americans, from the million-dollar CEO's right down to the 'little guy' making $30,000 at a job s/he might not have had if it weren't for these 'terrible' no-bid contracts.
Speaking of putting money in the pockets of Americans, McDonalds looks to employ around 400,000 people.
If you really felt so strongly about the fairness of these contracts, did you write to your representative and senators to express your frustration and plead with them to do something about it? Did you encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to do the same? ...or did you just complain about it on an internet forum? If you think McDonalds is so horrible, do you ensure that you do not support them by ever eating there?
