New v8 diesel pickups will (or do now) have a reverse-flow head design like this, puts the heat all in one spot, and it's MUCH more compact this way. Think of having a turbo hanging off the sides of a wee-8, and how much less room you'd have for wide tires in the front.
It's also for emissions, cost savings (single down pipe and exhaust as opposed to two that merge under the car.
