Well I am at work until later tonight so I wouldnt be able to make it down tonight.

The teeth of the flywheel should not engage the flywheel until the key is actually cranked. The drive gear (pinion gear) on the starter is pushed out and meshes with the flywheel. Its held in place through electromagnetism until the engine starts. The pinion gear is then released from mesh.

So, the starter is as easy as bolting it back into the original holes
