When the rest of the country got hit by the housing crisis, Fargo pretty much never budged and kept going up. That place has been growing for some time now. We made a pretty healthy profit when we sold my wifes house there 2 years ago. Just make sure to watch out for specials. A house that's 250k is probably really 270k once you figure in the specials.
The reason the oil boom has affected eastern parts of the state is because for that area to keep qualified workers around they have had to offer higher wages otherwise people just dip out and head west for huge sums of money. So they have had to compete. These are what all of our customers are experiencing as I work in the industrial sectors and they have a hard time keeping people from moving west without paying them lots.

However, from what I have seen you are right, its mostly just that it has been growing for other reasons but the oil has still affected it.

"specials" well that is lame, I dont' want to pay 20k for that whatever that is haha. I will have to look into that nonsense.

West fargo is where i am hoping to go I think, there are some newer developments and I would love to finish a new house per my spec if I can, but we will see. That is the range that I am looking in though, 260-280k as my house now is roughly worth 265-270k per my last appraisal last summer. But that price range isn't really buying more house in fargo which I was disappointed in as I figured Fargo was cheaper but its roughly teh same amount of house you get in blaine if not slightly less. Blaine is a great housing market to get a lot of house for your money I think. My main thing is I don't want to go down in quality of house as I love my house and I feel like if I am leaving friends/family I should be able to upgrade other stuff a bit to ease the pain so just want to stay in the same range or slightly better.

So what are the specials you speak of? I know a few people in the area and was going to question them on all of this before I commit.
