A quick way to check the fans is to turn on the AC. That will kick on both fans. It will not check the thermal switch though, just if there is power to the fans.

Funny thing is, we believed that about Allans a bit ago, tested it that way figured the problem was the thermal switch, realized that it doesn't work that way. The fan can get it's power from the AC fan but the circuit that has the thermal switch has it's own relay and wiring to the underhood fuse box. It can be fried, not come on normally, but still run with the AC. Go figure.
