Re: My first ever lemons race.. Nov 2-4th

Well first ever lemons race under my belt.

Started off getting to practice basically by myself on Friday in the rain (me and 1 other car but wouldn't really see each other)

Saturday car was sputtering but drivable:
As a team we blew 2 tires (owner was using all season/snow tires) we asked why and he said well he dirt oval tracks this car mostly but that it would be ok.

Also did a break change and turns out he was using the life time warranty brakes from advanced auto. Which my brother wasn't happy with but I have to admit, for me at my driving level the brakes were always there when I needed them.

We also had a driver who got black flag 2 times back to back which srt my brother off again.
1st black flag.. the guy didnt show up for thw rookie meeting, never registered at the gate to get his wrist band went out onto put lane where they check for the band and check you over personally to make sure your strapped in, etc and safe.
2)got his wrist band and then proceeded to back out only this time cross right over the track coming out of pits (crossing blend line) this time they kept him in the penalty box for almost the rest of his stint, I'm assuming for giving him time to read the rule book.
As my brother said. There are rules, they apply to you, and they will be enforced.

Sunday went off even worse.
The owner of the car went out drinking at a local bar with a friend and lost the key to the car. So we spent the first 1.5hrs of the race learning to hot wire a 1995 mustang. And break the steering lock. Which btw should have been disabled anyways per rules.

While we did that one of the guys fixed the throttle cable issue(only getting it open 60% when pedal is at 100%, and found the sputter issue was a bad plug wire) fix that
Then the guy who paid to drive the first 2hrs now on had 30min left of his stint. Got 6 laps in before he had to come in as 4 of the 6 spark plug wires the other guy had been working on he didn't push back in and had come off. (That guy actually had to leave so my we ended up splitting that guys stints)

Anyrate go back out and the new found power caused the clutch to not disengage or the syncros messed up. Basically only giving us 4th gear at speed (unless you wanted to pause for 6sec for each shift before it would go into gear any gear once getting into neutral..bascaly making it pointless to shift out of 4th)

So I got in for an hour on sunday and basically worked my times from a 2:35 lap down to 2:14's. Would have loved to see what I could have done with being able to shift.

My brother was cracking off 2:06..

But the car was overheating and we pretty sure blew a headgasket.

All in all was fun, wish I had more time as my last session I was finally passing people and getting inot a few really fun battles with some cars doing simular times as myself.

Doing it again in April only this time my brother said he's trailering his car down from jersey
