Tranny Swap Help

My buddy recently swapped the transmission on his AWD Laser. Everything seems to be put together correctly, but he does not have "reverse." When put in reverse, the car moves forward, and no other gear appears to be reverse either. What could be causing this? Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks for the help.

Re: Tranny Swap Help

What he thinks is reverse is probably 4th gear. Sounds to me like the cables need centering and adjustment.

I doubt it. There is a plug (can't remember the name) that is for reverse and it has to be in correctly. Its probably 180 degrees out and that is causing the car to not have reverse. I know somebody here knows what I am talking about. Nash remember when this happened on your 90 AWD? What the fuck is that plug called?

My made it should my tranny was stuck in gear. I agree with it being the shift cables. Try shifting it into reverse by hand at the tranny, see if that works.

Yeah, try disconnecting the cables from the tranny, and then shifting it right on the tranny.

Re: Tranny Swap Help

I guarantee it was the cables / bracket lol. Plug? Only plug I know of that has to do w/ reverse is the reverse light plug on the top of the tranny. That wouldn't effect it going in or out of reverse.
