Watch out for identity theft!
Just got off the phone with a sheriff up north. Apparently a car I sold was bought fraudently by a girl using another girl's information. This girl got a car loan and sent the check to me, she then picked up the car. I write up deals from out of town buyers all the time, and everything looked legit, so it didn't raise any red flags with me. It ended up being that she got the girl's information (dl#, ss#, addresses) from an application to be a consultant, plus they went to school together. The sheriff is repo'ing the car from the scam artist, but the girl who's name it's in will be getting a car she didn't want. Luckily I had a delay in getting the title processed or the title would be in the scammer's hands already. Yikes.
