Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

So i have been re/searching on tranny's and i have been advised that a best of all years OEM tranny will run 10s/hold 400hp ok and a lot of it depends on driving habits too.

Well my question is, what years have the best parts for the transmission.
(this piece from xx year and another piece from xx year).

Just trying to explore my options for a new transmission as mine is on the way out and that i might not score some pending deals on used built ones.

I am also pricing out built parts from other places, i am on a budget, but i like to do things only once and do it right/quality.

Thanks for the help
Aaron

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

Vassil ran a 10 on his trans. It was a rebuilt, stock trans from a 91. I dont think there was anything special done to it.

Seems like Shane would have probably the most info seeing I believe he ran a stock trans deep into the 10s with parts from certain years.

Mine breaks 4th gear constantly though. But the torque that my car made is one of the main reasons. With a 2.0l that doesnt make crap loads of torque, but a lot of HP, you could 9s without it exploding every run.

400hp and 10s usually dont go together though.

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

Well i know 400 and 10s don't go together, a lot of things don't in the car world.
But i was told by jake himself that he ran 10.x on his OEM tranny and made 400+hp on the same tranny. So if that sounded like 400=10s i apologize, the whole what power=what time baffles me anyway.

but thanks for that.
Anywho, i just wanted some info on what to go with and not overbuild/overspend and what some people have done.
Thanks for the info either way.

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

Actually even 300s can equal 10s in the right car. That 14B powered FWD that runs 10s doesn't make all that much power.

But yea, taking the best parts from different years is how places like TRE and Shep Racing got into building trannies.

Just send your tranny off to Shep and get it done. 94 is probably the best year because of the better syncro's.

Make it 9.975 @ 141.35.

Make it an FP evo3 16g if you are talking about the goodwill car.
